With just days to go before the RJRGLEANER Sports Foundation Awards Gala, national forward Kadijah “Bunny” Shaw continues to rack up accolades. After scoring an amazing 19 goals in Jamaica's successful World Cup campaign, Shaw has copped several awards including the prestigious Guardian Award and the Prime Minister's Youth Award for sports. Shaw who has been nominated for the Sportswoman of the Year Award, finished runner-up in Tuesday's CONCACAF Female Player of the Year Award.
The University of Tennessee senior was edged by Alex Morgan of the United States, who was winning for the second straight year. Shaw's national coach Hue Menzies walked away with the women's football Coach of the Year Award.
Shaw, who has represented Jamaica at every level, just under three weeks ago received an award from respected British publication The Guardian as a result of her display of inner-strength in overcoming personal tragedy. The 21 year old has often cited the tragedy of losing four brothers, three violently, as her motivation to excel.
With all those accolades, Shaw has put herself in pole position to mount a strong challenge for the national Sportwoman of the Year award. The RJRGLEANER Sports Foundation Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards Gala will held on Friday, January 18 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel and will be carried live on TVJ, TVJ SN, Hitz92 FM and 1spotmedia.com.
