Derby contender dies from colic at Caymanas Park

The M&S Syndicate, owners of derby contender Western Legend, have been left counting their losses following the unfortunate news that the colt died from the gastrointestinal condition, colic on Monday morning at the stables of trainer Fitznahum Williams at Caymanas Park.

The three year old chestnut colt who was one of the favourites for the June 30 Jamaica Derby, was being prepared for the Lotto Classic for the Governor's Cup, scheduled for May 26. Western Legend’s last race was on April 28, where he won the Simply Magic Cup by 15 and a half lengths in a new stakes record time of 1 minute, 56 and two fifths of a second.
