I did not get report from Lewin that Dudus was tipped off - News - Latest News - Jamaica Gleaner

Livern Barrett, Gleaner Writer KINGSTON, Jamaica: Former Prime Minister Bruce Golding has testified that he did not get a report from then army chief Major General Hardley Lewin that then fugitive Christopher 'Dudus' Coke was tipped off about the request for his extradition days after local authorities had been notified.

Instead, Golding, who was also Defence Minister, said the first time he heard that allegation was in an interview Lewin did with CVM television in 2010.

"I was shocked," he told the West Kingston Commission of Enquiry this morning.

In cross-examination by attorney-at-law Lord Anthony Gifford, who is representing the Office of the Public Defender, Golding said he made enquiries of the persons who had charge "of that knowledge" about the tip-off.

"And none of them could have given me any indication how that could have been leaked," the former prime minister said.
