MAYOR of Kingston Senator Delroy Williams has indicated that the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) is well advanced in the repairs being made to the Redemption Arcade.
KSAMC has since restored 62 stalls in the arcade with further repairs being done to beautify and improve the space, a release said yesterday.
“We are currently designing a seated recreational area, fitting rooms and landscaping for the arcade. The space was slightly clustered, which led to concerns of safety, security and the management of the space. We have been set back by other market fires across the city, but we are targeting July for the reopening of the market,” Williams is quoted as saying in the release.
The mayor went on to add that the KSAMC currently has projects ongoing at Jubilee Arcade and Red Rose Fish Market, with the Papine Market also on the radar for repairs following a fire earlier this month.
“We are reviewing options for securing the markets and making them more fire-resistant as the perennial problem has become a burden on the public purse,” Williams highlighted.
According to the mayor, steps will be taken to improve the markets for both the vendors and the shoppers.
