Senator Pearnel Charles Jnr has underscored the importance of education to the people of Clarendon North Central, during an address to mark a back-to-school event in the constituency recently.
Charles Jnr, the minister of state in the Ministry of National Security, was delivering the main address at the annual Clarendon North Central Education Awards at the Sir Donald Sangster Community Centre, Summerfield. The constituency is represented in Parliament by Pearnel Charles Snr.
“Education is a way that will lead you to prosperity in this world of global opportunities,” Charles Jnr told the audience of parents, students and community members. “Education is the progressive road towards prosperity, so don't stop the progress as we move towards that prosperity,” the younger Charles stated.
Member of Parliament Charles Snr thanked those who had supported him over the years in his quest to improve the standard of education in the constituency.
“I feel it is only right to assist them to educate their children so that they can get an education to become prosperous and to give back to other children so that the country can develop,” the elder parliamentarian said.
The MP said that over $4 million was spent this year to assist with back-to-school preparations, including 96 high school and 75 tertiary school grants. In addition, 416 students received uniform grants.
