KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Senator Ruel Reid has denounced the killing of 16-year-old Bog Walk High School student, Kevaughn Barnes, who was reportedly stabbed to death by four other teens yesterday.

The ministry said it has since dispatched a trauma team which has been providing grief counselling sessions with the staff and students.

According to reports, Kevaughn and a schoolmate were walking along the main thoroughfare in Bog Walk when they were accosted by a group of teenage boys from the community with whom they had a long-standing dispute.

It is alleged that one of the boys brandished a knife which he used to stab Kevaughn and Ishmael.

Both were assisted to the Linstead Hospital where Kevaughn was pronounced dead and his schoolmate admitted for treatment.

Principal of Bog Walk High, Patrick Phillips said Kevaughn was in the Alternative Pathways to Secondary Education (APSE) programme and was actively involved in class activities.

Phillips expressed that his death has greatly impacted the school especially his identical twin brother who is also a student at the institution.
