After being inserted to bat, the Windies put the English bowlers to the sword as Gayle and Lewis blitzed whoever was given the ball by captain Eoin Morgan.
The two put on 77 runs for the opening stand before Gayle was run out for 40, sauntering down the track for a single. Fellow opener Lewis pushed on to 51, striking 6 fours and 3 sixes to lay a solid platform for the Windies.
In England's reply, Jerome Taylor dismissed opener Jason Roy off the first ball of the innings. Alex hales then threatened to take the match away from the Windies but when he was dismissed for 43 off just 17, the game swung back in the Windies’ favour.
Jos Butler 30 and Johnny Bairstow 27, were the next best scorers for England as Sunil Narine's Man-of-the-Match 2-15 from 4 overs helped secure the win for the Windies.
Captain Carlos Brathwaite took 3-20 and Kesrick Williams had 3-35 for the Windies with Ashley Nurse and Jerome Taylor picking up a wicket apiece.
The teams now turn their attention to the 5-match ODI series starting on Tuesday at Old Trafford.
