KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Government says it will undertake a major clean-up exercise as part of efforts to minimise the effects of flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.
Minister of Local Government and Community Development Desmond McKenzie said the Government has budgeted $50 million for the islandwide programme.
McKenzie was speaking at today's post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House where he said that additional information on the programme will be provided soon.
In the meantime, McKenzie said the Government will be spending approximately $35 million in the community of Douglas Castle, St Ann, to undertake significant road-improvement works.
The money will be spent on raising a section of the road by approximately 15 metres and the construction of box culverts.
“The community has been severely affected due to recent flooding,” McKenzie said.
