Twenty-five year old Croatian Marin Cilic is the new U.S. Open men's singles champion.
The 6-foot 6-inch Cilic lifted his first Grand Slam title after defeating Japan's Kei Nishikori in straight sets 6-3 6-3 6-3 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, New York on Monday.
Cilic used 17 aces including four in one game, combined with punishing ground strokes to stop the pesky Nishikori, who stands at 5-foot 10-inches and is 24-years-old.
Cilic earned US$3 million for his victory. He's coached by another Croat Goran Ivanesevic, while Nishikori is coached by Michael Chang, the youngest man to win the French Open title at age 17 in 1989.
