Musicians pay final respects to ‘Sticky’

SINGERS and players of instruments gathered at the Washington Gardens Seventh-day Adventist Church in St Andrew last Sunday, for the funeral service of their colleague Uzziah 'Sticky' Thompson.

Thompson, a prolific percussionist, died August 25 from a heart attack in Florida. He was 78.

Tributes came from family and friends for one of reggae's premier percussionists who was baptised at the church one year ago.

There was a video tribute from Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Stephen Marley with whom Thompson toured for several years.

Among those who attended the service were singers Judy Mowatt and Sangie Davis; producers Winston 'Niney' Holness, Clive Hunt, Gussie Clarke and Donovan Germain; saxophonist Dean Fraser; keyboardists Bowie McLaughlin and Robbie Lyn; percussionists Bongo Herman and Denver Smith; bass players Lloyd Parks, Mikey Fletcher, Donald Dennis and Errol 'Flabba' Holt; guitarists Earl 'Chinna' Smith, Winston 'Bo Pee' Bowen, Rad Bryan and Dwight Pinkney.
