ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC) — The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has congratulated Professor Sir Hilary Beckles who has been named the next Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies.
A statement from WICB's headquarters in Antigua says the board also anticipates a deepening of ties with Professor Beckles.
"On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire West Indies cricket family we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Professor Sir Hilary on this auspicious appointment," WICB president Dave Cameron was quoted in the statement as saying.
"We look forward to a further deepening of the relationship between West Indies cricket and regional academia, and wish Professor Sir Hilary the very best in his new and esteemed role."
Professor Sir Hilary served as a Director of the WICB for several years until 2013.
He is the author and editor of several publications on the history of West Indies cricket and is considered the region's foremost cricket academic and historian.
Professor Sir Hilary will succeed Professor E Nigel Harris who will step down from the position in April 2015.
