Jamaica’s Under 20 footballers got their World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning start after clipping Grenada 1-0 in their opening game of the CONCACAF Championship at the IMG Academy in Florida on Friday evening. Jahmoi Topey provided the all-important goal in the 87th minute.

This was the U-20 Reggae Boyz first win at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship since 2013. The young Jamaicans will next play Nicaragua on Sunday. The Nicaraguans were beaten 7-0 by Mexico in their opening game on Friday night while Aruba and St Martin played to a 1-1 draw in the other group matches.

Only the group winner will advance to the qualification stage of the tournament. The top Caribbean team from this competition will qualify for the football tournament in the Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru next year.
