The National Water Commission (NWC) says it has begun the process to claim compensation from the construction firm China Harbour Engineering Company for damage to its infrastructure due to major road works in the Corporate Area.
The NWC has reported that water supply to more than 100,000 customers has been disrupted as a result of damage to its pipelines.
The latest break occurred on Friday on the Rio Cobre/Tulloch Spring Water Transmission Main along Mandela Highway.
NWC President Mark Barnett told RJR News that the NWC will make its compensation claim through the National Works Agency.
That’s in keeping with longstanding practice, whereby the NWA acts as an agent on behalf of the Government of Jamaica in relation to private contractors, he said.
Mr. Barnett says the losses are significant, running into “millions of Jamaican dollars.”
