Like many vendors across Jamaica, particularly in Kingston, this woman, seen on Ken Hill Drive in the capital city, sells flags of the countries participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia.

The month of competition, regarded as the greatest event on Earth, opens this Thursday with hosts Russia facing Saudia Arabia in Moscow. One of the most enticing of the early matches, Portugal vs Spain, is scheduled for Friday in Sochi, while two of the big favourites, Brazil and defending champions Germany, begin their campaigns on Sunday against Switzerland and Mexico, respectively. A total of 32 teams are vying for the trophy. (Photo: Karl McLarty)
