Saturday Social picks up where Page 2 left off at Bacchanal Jamaica's Rum For Breakfast event held Saturday last at the gardens of Hope Zoo. Standout booths were Goddard Catering Events (ackee and salt fish, perfectly fried dumplings, and crispy fried chicken and waffles); Grace Kitchens (the tastiest franks and beans); and Chas E Ramson which clearly knows that Foska oats, Hungry Jack pancakes and Elle & Vire yoghurts have very loyal followings.
The event touted rum as the “Breakfast of Champions” and provided patrons with options from Appleton and J Wray & Nephew. The bar was rounded out by Campari, Red Stripe, Baileys, Heineken, Patrón XO Cafe, Guinness and Johnnie Walker Black. However, the popular mixes were the Sperone and Pure Country mimosas, and Hennessy poured into freshly-cut coconuts.
Ayrton Distributors offered shelter from the intense tropical rays in its spa-like lounge. There, guests could blot their brows with cool facial towels scented with lavender and citrus and work out the knots from a stressful week with complimentary shoulder massages.
It wasn't just the sun that got people sweating; deejays Tyler, Cruise, Lantern MD & Richie Ras worked the crowd into a fine lather. The young and young-at-heart were further amped up by local hype man, JR Chromatic. But it was Trinidad's Patrick 'The Hypeman' Anthony who nudged the momentum to fever pitch! It looks like the Caribbean has another energy god!
Rum for Breakfast was fantastic. The food, music, libations and well-dressed crowd displayed true island style. We know that Bacchanal Jamaica throws really good parties and this second staging of the early-morning event was definitely on-brand and did not disappoint.
