ST JAMES, Jamaica — The St James Parish Development Committee (STJPDC) is urging residents in Mount Salem, which was on Friday declared the first zone of special operation (ZOSO), to obey the instructions of the joint forces.
The STJPDC said it is saddened by the loss of 54 lives since the start of 2017 in the Mount Salem community, as recorded by the police.
“We are concerned with the continued crime and violence in the area which have caused fear among the citizens and some being unable to leave the community for fear of their lives,” the committee said in a statement this afternoon.
The STJPDC also urged workers to display their worker IDs and to cooperate fully with the joint security forces, so that the area can return to stability as soon as possible. “Let us all give this Special Operation a fair chance to yield the desired benefits.”
The committee also urged the joint forces not to breach the rights of the law-abiding citizens during this period as they conduct their lawful duties and advised Mount Salem residents to email their concerns, suggestions and experience of ZOSO to email@example.com.
